Description

Marimo Moss balls are low-maintenance and an easy way to add a natural touch to your home. This kit comes with everything you need to make your own mini moss ball aquarium. Care instructions are included; no green thumb required!

What are Marimo Moss Balls

Interesting fact: Marimo moss balls aren't moss at all; they are a rare type of green algae (Aegagropila linnaei) that naturally grows in lakes in Japan, Iceland, Estonia, and a few other places. Over time, water currents shape them into soft, velvety balls.

Why People Love Them

Low maintenance - they just need their water changed every two weeks (cold tap water is perfectly fine) and a little bit of indirect light.

Symbolic - in Japanese culture, they represent love, luck, and longevity, which makes them perfect as a thoughtful gift for plant or nature lovers.

Decorative - often kept in jars, vases, or aquariums as a cute, natural home decor, bringing nature home with minimal upkeep.

Your Marimo Moss Balls Kit Includes

  • Two fluffy Marimo Moss Balls
  • 12.5 cm X 6 cm glass container with cork lid
  • Decorative gravel
  • Care instructions

Care note: Please unpack the Marimo Moss Balls as soon as possible. If it's a gift for later,  keep the moss balls happy by looking after them separately until the kit is ready to be built.

How do I look after my terrarium?

Lighting
Place your terrarium in bright, indirect light— a north-facing window is ideal. If natural light is limited, use LED or grow lights to ensure at least 8 hours of exposure daily.

Temperature
Keep your terrarium in a mild, stable environment. Avoid placing it near windows where it may get too cold in winter or too hot in summer. Keep it away from radiators and electronic appliances that emit heat.

Watering
For best results, use distilled or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup on the glass and keep plants healthy. A mister helps distribute water evenly and prevents overwatering, but tap water is generally fine if needed.

Pruning
Trim overgrown plants by cutting the stem just above the last node. You can even replant the cuttings to keep your terrarium thriving!
